Creating a Service Portal

What is a Service Portal?

A Service Portal is a type of UI that users leverage to interact with various ServiceNow applications and features. It's built using the Service Portal framework, which I'll explain a little later.

Service Portal Anatomy

A Service Portal is made up of the following:

  • Pages: They're not unique and can be used elsewhere on other portals
  • Containers: Help organize the content on the pages
  • Widgets: Are the data that's housed in these containers on the pages

In order to create these portals, the Service Portal Framework is used, which consists of a set of tools and features such as APIs, components, and more.

Service Portal Framework Tools

  • Branding Editor: Apply branding to your portal (i.e., company logo, colors, etc.,)
  • Designer: Layout and design the page by using containers and widgets
  • Page Editor: Edit elements of the page
  • Widget Editor: Create and edit widgets
  • New Portal: Create a service portal
  • Get Help: View service portal documentation on docs.servicenow.com
